When utilized as a DC-DC converter the IOTA converters the voltage of the main battery pack into 13.6 VDC to supply the 12 volt auxillary battery with a constant charge during vehicle operation.. The original 12 volt starter battery is typically retained to increase the ease of the overall conversion and to help maintain the balance of the large battery pack.
When utilized as a charger (RVs, forklifts, and golf carts) the IOTA DLS series takes the AC voltage from an outlet and converts it to DC to charge the 12 volt starter battery. For this application the IQ smart charger is recommended to properly condition the battey during charging, increasing it's overall lifespan.

of Bulk, Absorption, and Float stage charging, providing longer and safer use of your system's battery. The IQ Smart Controller is compatible with any DLS Battery Charger model and is covered under IOTA's standard Two-Year Warranty.

As apower supply, the unit's tightly controlled regulation allows the user to operate a nominal 36-54VDC load from 15-20 amps.
As abattery charger, the unit will maintain the battery, delivering its full-rated current when the battery capacity falls sufficiently low. The voltage is set to deliver its maximum current for the necessary period of time to minimize undue stress to the battery caused by heating of its cells. This helps to ensure the longest possible life of the battery. Over time, as the battery nears its full capacity, the charger will automatically drop the current, providing a float-charge to the battery to prevent self-discharge of the cells.
